ZooTampa at Lowry Park is preparing to launch its annual Christmas in the Wild event, beginning November 28 and running for seventeen nights through December 30. The event, presented by GEICO, has been nominated by USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards 2024 for Best Zoo Lights.
The holiday celebration will transform the zoo with more than a million lights, illuminated animal sculptures, entertainment, seasonal food options, and interactive activities. Organizers say this year’s edition includes new features from presenting sponsor GEICO. Visitors can follow the GEICO Gecko Santa Blvd to an expanded North Pole Lane where they can meet Santa, Mrs. Claus, and elves.
Christmas in the Wild is open to members and Zoo Fun Ticket holders at no additional cost. General admission tickets after 4 p.m. are $29.95 and can be purchased online at zootampa.org.
Event highlights include a 30-foot Christmas tree with choreographed light shows in Holly Jolly Circle; illuminated lanterns and performances in the Ituri Pass area; a modern dance party based on The Nutcracker; family dining experiences surrounded by decorated trees; themed zones such as Gingerbread Jubilee and Ice Cavern; music events including Rockin’ Wreaths; carousel rides at Candy Cane Carousel; Caribbean-themed displays with flamingo lights; carolers along Africa Path; large animal light sculptures throughout the zoo; continuous holiday light shows; and opportunities for special animal encounters.
The event runs from November 28 (members-only night), November 29, December 5-6, December 12-14, December 19-23 (from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.), and December 26-30 (from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.). Guests can also participate in charitable giving through the animal Giving Tree program supporting enrichment for ZooTampa’s animals.
ZooTampa at Lowry Park operates as an independent nonprofit organization focused on conservation, education, and research. It is recognized as Florida’s leading zoological attraction and holds accreditation from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). The zoo has received multiple awards for its exhibits and guest experience. It is one of three facilities nationwide able to care for critically injured manatees and one of two equipped for orphaned calves.
