The University of Central Florida has announced a new name for the office that supports incoming students and their families. Previously known as First Year Experience (FYE), the office will now operate as the Office of New Student and Family Programs (NSFP).
The university says this change is intended to better reflect the expanded mission of the office, which now includes engaging families and supporters in addition to helping new students transition into college life.
“Orientation, family programming and student transition initiatives extend well beyond the first year,” said Adrienne Frame, vice president for Student Success and Well-Being. “The new name more clearly communicates the breadth of services our students and families can expect and better aligns with how we describe our work across the university and nationally.”
As programs have grown over time, university officials determined that the FYE name no longer captured the full scope of services provided. The NSFP will serve as a central resource for orientation and transition programming for both first-time-in-college and transfer students, family engagement initiatives, and resources designed to help students succeed throughout their time at UCF.
Students, faculty, and staff can expect to see updated signage, websites, and materials reflecting the new name in the coming weeks.
“This transition strengthens our work to transform student aspirations into achievements and empower all students to thrive through our BEAM framework, centering belonging, engagement, achievement and meaning from the very start of a student’s journey,” Frame said. “We are excited to continue this important work under a name that fully represents who we are.”
