The State University System of Florida (SUS) has launched its 50th annual Admissions Tour, an event designed to provide high school counselors across the state with updated information on admissions processes, testing requirements, regulations, and student resources at Florida’s public universities.
UCF is hosting the third stop of the tour on Friday, September 5. During this visit, counselors will have the opportunity to learn about UCF’s academic programs and student success initiatives. The university is located in Orlando, a city recognized as one of the fastest-growing technology hubs in the United States.
SUS Chancellor Ray Rodrigues emphasized the importance of the tour for students seeking higher education opportunities: “For 50 years, the Admissions Tour has supported Florida’s high school students in achieving their higher education goals by providing high schools with vital admissions information and resources. Through this collaborative approach across the entire SUS, we demonstrate our commitment to a transparent and accessible admissions process, affording all potential students the same opportunity to earn their seat within the nation’s No. 1 higher education system.”
The two-week tour includes stops at all 12 public universities in Florida. Counselors attending these events can ask questions directly to university representatives and receive updates on changes related to admissions policies and financial aid.
Diego Fermin, SUS Director of Admissions and Special Projects, said: “The Admissions Tour is an important part of the SUS’s relationship with Florida’s students and education professionals. By providing an opportunity to connect with high school counselors and leaders in Florida, we help strengthen the connection between our students and our universities. These interactions, presentations and questionnaires are an invaluable resource that allow Florida’s high schools to be in the know about the latest news regarding student admissions to the SUS.”
The State University System of Florida comprises 12 institutions serving more than 430,000 students statewide. It is governed by a Board of Governors responsible for defining each institution’s mission as well as managing coordination throughout the system. Since 2017, Florida has ranked first nationally for higher education according to U.S. News & World Report.
