The U.S. Census Bureau has released the 2023 Business Dynamics Statistics (BDS), offering updated data on key measures such as job creation and destruction, establishment births and deaths, and firm startups and shutdowns. The BDS provides an annual time series covering the years from 1978 to 2023.

According to the announcement, “The data provide measures of business dynamics, such as job creation and destruction, establishment births and deaths, and firm startups and shutdowns for the economy overall and aggregated by establishment and firm characteristics. BDS is an annual time series spanning 1978 to 2023.”

The latest figures are accessible through the BDS website, via the Census API, or using BDS Explorer. The explorer tool allows users to access the entire dataset with features including line charts, bar charts, thematic maps, and a dashboard for constructing tables and visual comparisons.

For more information about these resources or to explore the new data set further, visit BDS or use BDS Explorer.
