The U.S. Census Bureau has published its latest Business Formation Statistics (BFS) for December 2025. The BFS offer updated data on new business applications and formations across the United States and Puerto Rico, providing insight into entrepreneurial activity each month.

These statistics are produced by the Census Bureau in partnership with economists from several institutions, including the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, the University of Maryland, and the University of Notre Dame.

The monthly release includes a comprehensive dataset featuring twelve different series—four related to business applications and eight to business formations. This data is made available at national, regional, and state levels. For Puerto Rico, four monthly business application series are included as part of the standard release. Both seasonally adjusted and unadjusted figures are provided.

According to the Census Bureau: “The BFS provide timely and high frequency information on new business applications and formations in the United States and Puerto Rico.”

No separate news release accompanied this update; it was distributed as a tip sheet only.
