AdventHealth Medical Group has announced the addition of Dr. Alba Rivera-Díaz to its pulmonary team at AdventHealth Waterman. Dr. Rivera-Díaz will provide care for a range of lung conditions, including asthma, lung scarring disorders, and lung nodules. She will also offer services in both Spanish and English.

Brandon Nudd, president and CEO of AdventHealth Waterman, said, “We are excited to add Dr. Rivera-Díaz to our team of pulmonologists. Her expertise in advanced bronchoscopy and her patient-first approach strengthen our multidisciplinary lung care, helping neighbors find answers and get back to what matters most right here in Lake County.”

Dr. Rivera-Díaz received specialized training in advanced diagnostic bronchoscopy at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. She completed her pulmonary and critical care fellowship at the VA Caribbean Healthcare System in San Juan. She is board-certified in internal medicine, pulmonary disease, and critical care medicine.

In addition to her medical training, Dr. Rivera-Díaz has experience as a dietitian-nutritionist, which she uses to connect daily habits with lung health.

“My mission is to improve the quality of life for patients with various pulmonary conditions by providing compassionate, evidence-based care and empowering them to live their fullest lives,” said Rivera-Díaz. “I collaborate with primary care teams to deliver less-invasive diagnostics and practical plans, informed by my training and experience. I look forward to caring for Lake County alongside AdventHealth Medical Group.”

Her academic contributions include national presentations with organizations such as the American Thoracic Society, American College of Chest Physicians, and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. She has published research on topics like ICU outcomes during disasters, sepsis care, difficult-to-treat asthma, and co-authored a book chapter on environmental factors in asthma.

Dr. Rivera-Díaz has also been involved in community support efforts after earthquakes in southern Puerto Rico and led food and toy drives for people experiencing homelessness and underserved children.

AdventHealth Medical Group includes nearly 450 physicians and advanced practice providers across Flagler, Lake, Sumter, and Volusia counties covering about 30 specialties. In 2024 alone, they provided more than one million patient visits. Nearly 120 new physicians joined the division last year—including almost 20 in Lake County—to support AdventHealth Waterman.

Dr. Rivera-Díaz is accepting new patients at AdventHealth Medical Group Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine at Tavares.

AdventHealth Orlando is located in Orlando, Florida; it was founded in 1908 and currently operates under President Terry Shaw. The hospital includes a pediatric ward and serves as a training facility.
