Adrianna, Logan, and Maya, three nursing students from Florida, participated in a cross-state journey as part of the PBS series “Roadtrip Nation.” Their trip included a stop at AdventHealth Winter Garden, where they interviewed Dr. Sarah Brumbaugh-Baker, a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) with U.S. Anesthesia Partners who works at AdventHealth Central Florida hospitals. Dr. Brumbaugh-Baker is also a 2022 graduate of AdventHealth University’s Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice program and has served as adjunct faculty at the university.
The interview was filmed over two hours in March and became part of an episode that began airing on November 1 as “Roadtrip Nation | Care and Impact | Nursing Possibilities | Season 28 | Episode 12 | PBS.” As part of the show’s educational mission, each featured professional receives a career roadmap page online, which includes video interviews and information about their professional path. Dr. Brumbaugh-Baker’s profile is available at Sarah Brumbaugh-Baker | Roadtrip Nation.
“A lot of nurses are scared away from becoming a CRNA because the schooling is notoriously difficult. It’s true that CRNA school is very hard and you have to really be committed. But it’s a few challenging years that lead to a career of fulfillment and stability. Just buckle down, stay strong, and get through it,” said Dr. Brumbaugh-Baker on “Roadtrip Nation’s” website.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, nurse anesthetists currently have a median salary of $212,650 and are in high demand.
AdventHealth Orlando is located in Orlando, Florida, and was founded in 1908. The hospital serves as both a care provider—including pediatric services—and as a training facility under its current president Terry Shaw.
