A new minimally invasive procedure for treating enlarged prostate is now available at AdventHealth Palm Coast Parkway. The procedure, known as prostate artery embolization (PAE), is performed by Dr. Kyle Burton, an interventional radiologist with AdventHealth Medical Group. Burton is currently the only physician offering PAE in AdventHealth’s East Florida Division.

“PAE is an important step forward in how we treat an enlarged prostate,” said Burton. “It gives patients in Flagler County access to the latest care options with fewer risks and quicker recovery. Our goal is to expand choices so men can find the treatment that works best for them — without having to wait months or travel far from home.”

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) affects millions of men and can lead to frequent urination, weak urinary flow, and incomplete bladder emptying. Traditionally, severe cases have been treated with surgery called TURP, which requires general anesthesia and a hospital stay and carries a higher risk of side effects such as incontinence.

PAE differs from traditional surgery by being an outpatient procedure performed under light sedation. The technique involves blocking small blood vessels supplying the prostate using a catheter, causing the gland to shrink. Most patients return home the same day.

AdventHealth Palm Coast Parkway also offers Aquablation therapy, a robotic-assisted treatment introduced in 2023 that uses a heat-free waterjet to remove excess prostate tissue. While Aquablation remains an option for many patients, PAE provides another alternative for those seeking different treatments.

According to AdventHealth’s 2025 Community Health Needs Assessment, nearly one-third of Flagler County residents are over age 65. This demographic faces daily challenges from conditions like enlarged prostate that impact sleep and well-being. By expanding access to treatments such as PAE and Aquablation, more patients can receive advanced care within their community.

Burton has completed more than 65 PAE procedures since January at AdventHealth Palm Coast Parkway using cone beam CT imaging technology—the only system of its kind in Flagler County. This marks significant growth compared to earlier this year when he had completed just 28 cases.

There are plans to expand access to PAE at additional AdventHealth locations, including AdventHealth Palm Coast.
