Jon Holden has been named the new General Vice President of Training and Apprenticeships for the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, effective April 1, according to an announcement made at the recent MNPL Conference in Savannah, Georgia.
The appointment follows a unanimous vote by the IAM Executive Council. Holden previously served as president of IAM District 751 in Washington state, where he represented tens of thousands of skilled workers who primarily built Boeing aircraft at local manufacturing facilities.
The move signals a leadership transition focused on training and apprenticeship programs within one of North America’s largest industrial unions. The decision comes at a time when workforce development is seen as crucial for maintaining competitiveness in aerospace manufacturing.
Holden’s experience leading District 751 is expected to inform his approach to union-wide training initiatives. His background includes advocating for workers involved in complex manufacturing processes and negotiating with major industry employers such as Boeing.
Observers will be watching how Holden’s leadership shapes future apprenticeship strategies and impacts both union members and the broader aerospace sector.
