Joint replacement surgery can offer more than a return to basic mobility. For some patients, it opens the door to an active and fulfilling life. Tim Schmieding’s experience with AdventHealth Medical Group Colorado Joint Replacement at Porter highlights how medical expertise and patient support can help individuals achieve significant milestones after surgery.
Schmieding began experiencing arthritis in his early twenties, which limited his athletic pursuits. He managed the condition for years with injections, but as his pain worsened and mobility declined, he sought a more lasting solution. By his forties, Schmieding turned to Dr. Todd Miner for advice on surgical options that could help him resume sports and reach personal goals.
“I didn’t want to just get up and walk after my surgery. I wanted to compete and meet my long-term goals…and Dr. Miner insisted this was possible,” Schmieding said.
Dr. Miner performed a total knee replacement on Schmieding in August 2017. The rehabilitation process was challenging, but the outcome exceeded expectations. After surgery, Schmieding returned to activities such as hiking, cycling, and playing pickleball with his wife. In 2019, he achieved a personal dream by climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro ahead of schedule and later hiked part of the Inca Trail in Peru’s Andes mountains.
“I had so much strength and confidence in my knee that I didn’t even know I had. I just kept going,” Schmieding said.
His experience suggests joint replacement can help restore not only movement but also enable individuals to pursue new ambitions.
