The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) is encouraging its members and supporters to participate in the Young Workers March on Washington, scheduled for Saturday, February 7 in Washington, D.C.
The event aims to unite labor unions and worker advocacy groups from across the United States to call for improved opportunities for young workers. The IAM stated that young people are currently experiencing several challenges, including issues related to affordability, housing, healthcare, childcare, and student debt. These problems are seen as threats to both the future workforce and community stability.
According to the IAM, “Young workers today are facing multiple, overlapping crises, including: An affordability crisis; A housing crisis; A healthcare crisis; A childcare crisis; A growing student debt crisis.”
The march will begin at 11 a.m. at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill (400 New Jersey Ave., NW), followed by a rally at noon at the U.S. Capitol Building.
Participants are encouraged by the IAM to join in advocating for good jobs and economic security. The union emphasized the importance of making voices heard “for good jobs, economic security, and a future where working families can thrive.”
