The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) marked Veterans Day in the United States and Remembrance Day in Canada by honoring those who have served in the armed forces. In a message to members, IAM International President Brian Bryant expressed appreciation for veterans’ service.

“We owe a profound debt of gratitude to the women and men who have been on the front lines defending our freedom, protecting our democracy, and the ideals that unite us. Their bravery, sacrifice, and commitment to service represent the best of all of us,” said Bryant.

Bryant highlighted how veterans continue to contribute after their military service: “The same dedication that drives our veterans to defend our nation is what motivates them to build a better future for working families when they return home. Their leadership, discipline, and sense of unity strengthen our union and inspire everyone to keep fighting for dignity, justice, and respect at work.”

This year, IAM reached a significant milestone through its Veterans Services Program by becoming the first union officially recognized as a National Veterans Service Organization (VSO) by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This recognition ensures IAM military veterans and their families have direct access to essential benefits, trusted representation, and support navigating VA systems.

“This historic designation highlights our union’s commitment to supporting those who have served in the armed forces,” said Bryant. “It ensures that IAM military veterans and their families now have direct access to essential benefits, trusted representation, and a strong advocate.”

Bryant concluded his message by acknowledging all IAM veterans: “To all IAM veterans and every veteran: Thank you! Your courage and service remind us what true solidarity looks like. We may never be able to fully repay your sacrifice, but we can—and must—honor it: by supporting each other, fighting for peace and equity, and ensuring every veteran and their family receive the care, opportunities, and respect they deserve.”

On behalf of the entire IAM Executive Council, Bryant extended gratitude in solidarity.
