IAM General Secretary-Treasurer Dora Cervantes has announced the appointment of Stephen Stewart as an IAM International Auditor, with the position becoming effective on October 1, 2025. Stewart is a longtime member of IAM Local S6 and will be responsible for overseeing financial stewardship at IAM Districts and Locals in Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Vermont, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and New York.

“Stephen Stewart has consistently demonstrated the highest level of integrity, dedication, and skill in every role he’s held in our union,” said IAM General Secretary-Treasurer Dora Cervantes. “His leadership at Local S6 and District 4 has shown that he understands the responsibility of financial stewardship and the importance of transparency to our members. I have no doubt he will excel as an International Auditor and serve our membership with distinction.”

Stewart joined IAM Local S6 at Bath Iron Works in 2011. Since 2020, he has served as Local S6 Secretary-Treasurer. He has participated actively on the Legislative Committee and was part of the 2023 Negotiating Committee. In 2023, Stewart was also elected Recording Secretary of District 4 where he provided financial oversight and organizational support.

“IAM Assistant Secretary Paul Kendall stated: “Stephen’s experience in financial oversight, negotiations, and legislative advocacy gives him a well-rounded perspective that will be invaluable in his new role. He knows what it takes to keep our Locals strong, accountable, and member-focused.”

Stewart has represented members as a delegate to organizations such as the Maine Machinists Council, New England Machinists Council, A. Philip Randolph Institute, Maine AFL-CIO, and at the 2024 IAM International Convention. His previous work includes service on Education and Organizing Committees as well as legislative advocacy for working families in Maine.

Bryan Pinette, IAM Special Assistant to the General Secretary-Treasurer said: “Stephen has an incredibly strong commitment to our members. His appointment as International Auditor is well deserved, and I’m confident he will be a tremendous asset to our team.”

Stewart graduated from Lake Region High School in Naples, Maine before continuing his education at Bryant College. He received technical training through the Maine Maritime Apprenticeship Program at Bath Iron Works and completed several IAM training programs focusing on leadership and finance.

With this background in financial management along with negotiation experience within labor organizations across several states in the Northeast United States (Maine; New Hampshire; Massachusetts; Vermont; Connecticut; Rhode Island; New York), Stewart brings relevant expertise to his new auditing role.
