As the holiday season approaches, Highlands County in Central Florida is preparing a series of events across Sebring, Avon Park, and Lake Placid. The celebrations include train rides, light displays, parades, markets, and performances designed to attract both residents and visitors.

Sebring’s Circle Park will feature illuminated displays and nightly visits from Santa Claus through December 24. This year, the Grinch will also appear in his own area for photos and interactions. On select nights, artificial snow will create a winter atmosphere downtown.

The historic Jacaranda Hotel in Avon Park is decorated with period ornaments reflecting its 1920s style until January 12. Guests can explore the Arcade or enjoy holiday meals while attending various seasonal events listed on the hotel’s website.

For those interested in themed transportation experiences, the Sugar Express offers Santa Express Holiday Train Rides between Clewiston and Sebring on select dates from November 29 to December 21. Passengers can expect festive decorations and a visit from Santa Claus who greets children with cookies and gifts during the journey.

Community parades are scheduled throughout December: Avon Park holds its Christmas Parade on December 1; Sebring hosts its “Candy Cane Lane” parade on December 5; Lake Placid features its “Gingerbread Lane” parade on December 13 where spectators can vote for their favorite entry.

Other activities include an evening market at Journal Plaza with tree lighting (December 2), craft fairs (December 13), boat parades on Lake Jackson (December 13), bilingual performances like Flor de la Noche Buena (December 7), fun runs (December 12), antique machinery exhibits by Florida Flywheelers Antique Engine Club (select dates in December), as well as opportunities for local shopping and family entertainment.
