Local entrepreneurs Brian and Elizabeth McCadie have introduced a new attraction in Islamorada, Florida Keys, with the launch of Transparensea, a glass bottom boat that offers both day and night excursions from Robbie’s Marina.
Brian McCadie, who has a background as a U.S. Coast Guard fishing charter captain, developed the concept to provide visitors with an alternative way to experience marine life in The Keys. Elizabeth McCadie supported the venture after collaborating with her husband on previous projects at Robbie’s Marina. After conducting research and planning, they launched Transparensea to give guests another option for exploring local waters.
The 46-foot vessel is equipped with 16 window wells, seating for up to 30 people, restroom facilities, and Seakeeper technology designed to minimize seasickness. One feature that sets Transparensea apart is its underwater lighting system. According to the operators, this makes it the first glass bottom boat in the United States to offer night trips where passengers can see marine creatures such as sharks, turtles, coral formations, and squid illuminated after dark.
“Our goal was to create something families could enjoy after dark,” said Brian McCadie. “The lights make such a difference, and the sea life is more active at night—this is truly a one-of-a-kind experience in The Keys.”
Tours include narrated visits to several notable coral sites like Cheeca Rocks, Caloosa Rocks, and Alligator Reef. Organizers say these tours are structured to allow participants an up-close look at Florida Keys marine ecosystems while avoiding crowded boating areas.
Transparensea operates daily except for Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Daytime tours are scheduled at noon and 3 p.m., while night trips depart approximately 20 minutes after sunset. More information about bookings can be found at www.glassbottomtour.com or by calling 305-21-GLASS.
