The Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) will begin a hearing on August 11 to review Florida Power & Light Company’s (FPL) request for a base rate increase. The hearing provides an opportunity for FPL and other parties involved in the case to present sworn testimony and evidence supporting their positions.

FPL submitted its petition for the rate increase to the PSC on February 28. Earlier this year, the commission held nine service hearings—two virtual and seven in person—to gather input from customers regarding FPL’s quality of service and its request for higher rates. FPL supplies electricity to about six million retail customers across Northwest and peninsular Florida.

The hearing is set to start at 1:00 p.m. EDT at the Betty Easley Conference Center, Joseph P. Cresse Hearing Room (Room 148), located at 4075 Esplanade Way in Tallahassee, Florida. Additional dates from August 12–15 and August 18–22 have been reserved if more time is needed, with daily session times announced as the hearing progresses.

A live broadcast of the proceedings will be available through the PSC’s website by selecting “Watch Live and Archived PSC Events” on their homepage, and may also be shown on the Florida Channel depending on local listings.
