The Florida Public Service Commission (FPSC) has approved updated charges for the Cast Iron/Bare Steel Replacement Rider (CI/BSR Rider) of Peoples Gas System, Inc. (PGS), set to take effect in January 2026. The move is part of ongoing efforts to modernize and improve the safety of Florida’s natural gas distribution network.

The FPSC finalized its review of PGS’s actual and projected true-ups for 2024 and 2025. These adjustments are now included in the calculation of the new 2026 charges.

Residential customers will see a monthly surcharge increase under the CI/BSR Rider, amounting to $0.01593 per therm starting next year. For an average residential customer using 20 therms per month, this results in an increase of about 32 cents on their monthly bill.

The CI/BSR Rider supports the replacement of aging cast iron, bare steel, and problematic plastic pipes throughout PGS’s service areas. For 2026, PGS plans to invest approximately $62.1 million in system modernization projects, with an approved revenue requirement set at $2.9 million after factoring in prior-year adjustments.

Peoples Gas System currently provides natural gas service to over 400,000 residential, commercial, and industrial customers across 14 service areas in Florida.
