County and specialty medical societies have been asked to nominate eligible physicians for service on the Florida Medical Association’s (FMA) reference committees. The deadline for nominations is set for 5 p.m. ET on Friday, May 9.

Reference committees are made up of at least five voting members from the FMA House of Delegates (HOD), excluding current FMA officers and Board of Governors (BOG) members. The FMA Speaker and Vice Speaker select committee members, who are responsible for holding open hearings on proposed resolutions before these items go to the full HOD during the Annual Meeting.

After collecting direct feedback on each resolution, committee members deliberate privately to reach a decision. They then present their recommendations in a detailed report to the HOD. If a resolution passes through the House and is adopted by the BOG, it becomes official FMA policy.

Online testimony regarding properly filed resolutions will be available to delegates starting Monday, June 23, at 9 a.m. ET and will close Thursday, July 3, at 9 p.m. ET. Delegates can submit testimony indicating support or opposition for each resolution.

Reference committees will meet in executive session during the week of Monday, July 7, to prepare their reports. These reports will be published online prior to the start of the Annual Meeting on Friday, July 25. Delegates will have an opportunity to debate committee recommendations during in-person hearings scheduled for Saturday, July 26.
