The Florida Department of Education has announced the winners of the third annual Florida College System Cybersecurity Competition. The event brought together students from colleges across the state to participate in a virtual cyber range, where they addressed scenarios similar to those encountered by professionals in the cybersecurity industry.
Nearly 4,500 students are currently enrolled in cybersecurity programs within the Florida College System (FCS), where they receive practical training aimed at preparing them for careers in this growing field. The competition is part of ongoing efforts to address the increasing demand for skilled cybersecurity professionals.
“Witnessing these students tackle complex cybersecurity challenges has been truly impressive,” said Commissioner of Education Anastasios Kamoutsas. “Their ingenuity, perseverance and critical thinking skills demonstrate that Florida is cultivating a strong cybersecurity pipeline. Thanks to their hard work and dedication, the future of cybersecurity in our great state is incredibly bright.”
All participants were awarded a cyber range certification provided by Global Business Solutions, Inc. Teams were ranked based on their performance managing and defending simulated network infrastructures. Support for the event came from several organizations, including the Florida Department of Education, Florida College System Foundation, Florida Student Success Center, Capital City Wealth, Cyber Florida and Bill Cramer Chevrolet.
The competition was organized through the FCS Cybersecurity Collaborative, which brings together leaders from all 28 FCS institutions to share best practices and develop workforce partnerships intended to expand opportunities for students and strengthen cybersecurity education throughout Florida.
