The start of autumn in Florida is marked not by changing leaves, but by the harvesting of citrus crops. According to Steve Johnson, Chairman of the Florida Citrus Commission, this period is significant for growers across the state.
Johnson highlighted the recent Florida Citrus Commission (FCC) meeting held on October 22. All eleven commission members attended either in person or virtually, along with several industry partners who provided updates and recommendations through various committees of the Florida Department of Citrus.
“Besides the ‘let’s get to work’ attitude felt among growers and in the groves, there’s also a sense of determination and optimism. The recent FCC Meeting, which was held on October 22, was a reflection of those sentiments. We had a full house with all of our 11-member commission present either in-person or digitally, and quite a few of our industry partners in attendance, either to present or to contribute as our Florida Department of Citrus committees brought valuable updates and recommendations before the commission,” said Johnson.
He noted that November typically does not include an FCC meeting. The next session is scheduled for December 17 at 9:00 a.m. at the commission’s Bartow headquarters.
Steve Johnson serves as chairman of the commission and is also owner and general manager of Johnson Harvesting, Inc., based in Wauchula.
