Duke Energy and the city of Terre Haute have launched a joint campaign to help residents reduce their heating costs during the winter. The initiative encourages residents to participate in Duke Energy’s Home Energy House Call program, which offers free in-home energy assessments.
Through this program, eligible customers can receive a visit from an energy efficiency specialist who will analyze their home’s energy use and evaluate the efficiency of appliances and heating or cooling systems. Based on these findings, customers are provided with a personalized report outlining steps they can take to improve efficiency and lower their energy bills.
“Making energy efficiency upgrades to your home is one of the most practical steps Terre Haute families can take to manage their energy costs this winter,” said Terre Haute Mayor Brandon Sakbun. “By teaming up with Duke Energy, we’re giving residents a simple, free way to make their homes more efficient and lower their monthly bills. It’s an easy win for Terre Haute families and a great example of what can happen when we work together to deliver real value to our community. I know that utility bills can be a major part of a household’s budget, and I’m thankful that Duke Energy came to the city with ideas to help residents in need.”
Customers who complete the assessment will also receive an energy efficiency kit by mail. The kit includes bathroom aerators, weatherstripping, water heater insulation pipe wrap, and a furnace filter whistle for immediate savings.
“We are excited to partner with Mayor Sakbun to bring Home Energy House Call to more customers across Terre Haute,” said Stan Pinegar, president of Duke Energy Indiana. “It’s a great way for families to get personalized recommendations and insights to help them save energy and ultimately money on their energy bills each month.”
The Home Energy House Call program is available for Duke Energy customers living in single-family homes, condominiums, townhomes or manufactured homes equipped with electric water heaters, electric heat or central air conditioning. In addition to in-person visits, virtual, phone and online assessment options are offered. Residents interested in signing up can visit Home Energy House Call or call 844.346.4366.
Duke Energy representatives will be at Terre Haute City Hall on Monday, Nov. 3 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m., where they will assist residents with enrollment and provide information about bill management programs as well as assistance funds.
Duke Energy also provides payment flexibility through programs such as Budget Billing, Pick Your Due Date and Installment Payment Plan options. For those who qualify based on income requirements, partnerships between Duke Energy and local agencies offer access to state- and federally-funded assistance like Low-income Home Energy Assistance Programs (LIHEAP), which gives eligible households one-time payments toward winter utility bills; as well as Share the Light Fund support for qualifying customers facing difficulties paying their bills.
