Duke Energy has announced that Jeffrey Guldner will join its board of directors starting September 15. He will also serve on the Compensation and People Development Committee and the Finance and Risk Management Committee.

Harry Sideris, president and chief executive officer of Duke Energy, commented on the appointment: “As Duke Energy delivers day in and day out for our customers during a time of historic growth in the industry, Jeff’s leadership and energy sector insights bring incredible value to our company as we shape the future of energy. We look forward to working with Jeff as we advance Duke Energy’s strategy and continue to provide exemplary governance for our stakeholders.”

Ted Craver, independent chair of the Duke Energy board of directors, said: “From his distinguished career at Pinnacle West Capital Corporation and its primary subsidiary, Arizona Public Service Company (APS), Jeff has led through pivotal moments of execution and transformation. His prior experience provides a unique lens that will strengthen the board with distinct perspectives and help drive constructive outcomes for Duke Energy, its employees, customers and shareholders.”

Guldner retired as chairman of the board, president, and CEO of Pinnacle West Capital Corporation and APS earlier this year after five years in those roles. He remains an advisor at Pinnacle West until March 2026.

During his tenure at APS, Arizona saw significant economic expansion. Guldner guided APS through increased energy demand while focusing on affordability and reliability for customers. The press release noted his commitment to respectful treatment for both customers and employees.

Guldner currently serves on boards including the Smart Electric Power Alliance and the McCain Institute. Before joining APS, he was a partner at Snell & Wilmer LLP in Phoenix specializing in public utility law. He also served as a surface warfare officer in the U.S. Navy and taught naval science at the University of Washington.

Duke Energy is one of America’s largest energy holding companies with electric utilities serving 8.6 million customers across six states including Florida (https://www.duke-energy.com/home). Its natural gas utilities reach 1.7 million customers in several states as well.
