Compass has expanded its presence in Florida by adding a 15-agent team in Stuart, marking its entry into the Treasure Coast region. The New York-based brokerage, led by CEO Robert Reffkin, acquired the New Wave Group, according to a press release. Sara Crombie leads the team, which focuses on luxury residential properties in Martin, Palm Beach, and St. Lucie counties.
The New Wave Group has completed over $500 million in sales. Its agents include Catherine Hudzina, Dana Netska, Ellen Pentland, Gayle Sokoloff, Genece Singer, Jake Newman, Jennifer Heins, Judy Cialone, Laura Trombetta, Mike Davis, Nina Blum, Susan Freytes, Susan Slutsky and Will Gluckman.
Brokerages have been expanding their reach in Florida following increased migration to the state during the pandemic. In 2023, Keyes Company grew its presence on the Treasure Coast by acquiring a 24-agent brokerage in Fort Pierce.
Compass operates with more than 33,000 agents nationwide and has invested heavily in mergers and acquisitions. The company’s growth in Florida includes adding a 20-agent team in the Panhandle’s 30A region in 2022 as reported by RealTrends (https://www.realtrends.com/articles/compass-adds-20-agent-team-in-floridas-panhandle/). In March of this year it opened an office for 300 agents and staff in Downtown Naples (https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20240312005887/en/Compass-Opens-New-Naples-Office-to-Support-Growing-Presence-in-Southwest-Florida), and welcomed the Korman Group—a team of 40 agents—to its Boca Raton office in July.
Compass is also involved in legal action regarding real estate marketing practices. The firm is suing Zillow over private listings policies and announced it would no longer follow the National Association of Realtors’ Clear Cooperation Policy.
