The U.S. Census Bureau has announced the release of updated Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (TIGER)/Line files for 2025. These files are now available in Shapefile, Geodatabase, and GeoPackage formats, which will enable users to create custom maps using various data sources.

This year’s updates include new Current Suffixed Blocks Geodatabases and GeoPackages. These contain both 2020 and current block information, with suffixes that indicate blocks split since 2020. The updated data can be linked to the Census Bureau’s current address count listing files.

Geospatial data provided by the Census Bureau covers legal, administrative, and statistical boundaries as well as roads and hydrography. Users will be able to connect these geographic boundary data sets with upcoming 2025 demographic data on data.census.gov, making it possible to visualize census tabular data on a map.

While TIGER/Line files do not include demographic information themselves, they do provide geographic entity codes (GEOIDs) that can be used to link with the Census Bureau’s demographic datasets. For those needing guidance on which product best suits their needs, additional resources are available on the TIGER Data Products Guide page.

There is no formal news release associated with this product; this announcement serves as an informational tip sheet.
