The U.S. Census Bureau announced on April 9 that it has released a downloadable file with estimates of the nation’s resident population by single year of age and sex as of July 1, 2025.
These new data provide insight into the demographic makeup of the United States for policymakers, researchers, and the public. Understanding shifts in age and sex distribution can help inform planning for services such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure.
According to the Census Bureau, additional releases are planned in the coming months. These will include housing unit estimates for the nation, states, and counties; population estimates for cities and towns; as well as more detailed breakdowns by age, sex, race, and Hispanic origin at various geographic levels including metropolitan areas. The agency also plans to release Puerto Rico Commonwealth and municipio population estimates by age and sex.
No formal news release accompanied this product; instead a tip sheet was provided to inform interested parties about its availability.
As more detailed demographic data become available later this year from the Census Bureau’s scheduled releases, communities across the country may use these statistics to guide local policy decisions.
