AdventHealth Wesley Chapel recognized three members of the Pasco County Emergency Medical Services team on March 19 for their quick action that helped save a patient’s life during a cardiac emergency late last year.
The recognition took place at Fire Station 13, where AdventHealth Wesley Chapel leaders joined Pasco County Fire Rescue to honor Ashley Puller, Brittney Giordano, and Juan Romero. The three EMS professionals were commended for their coordinated response to a cardiac arrest incident on December 5, 2025.
According to the hospital, the patient lost consciousness due to ventricular fibrillation while at a restaurant. Bystanders began CPR before first responders arrived, initiating what is known as the chain of survival. When EMS crews reached the scene, they delivered a shock to restore the patient’s heart rhythm, provided breathing support, and continued high-quality CPR. Their efforts resulted in the patient regaining a pulse and later regaining consciousness during transport.
The patient was eventually discharged from the hospital without neurological deficits. This outcome is uncommon in cardiac arrest cases and demonstrates the importance of rapid and coordinated care. “This moment is an important reminder of how critical every second is during a cardiac emergency,” said Stormy Dulovich, chief nursing officer at AdventHealth Wesley Chapel. “Because of the actions of this EMS team, this patient has another chance at life.”
AdventHealth Wesley Chapel regularly collaborates with local first responders to recognize exceptional care and strengthen connections between pre-hospital teams and hospital staff.
Located in Orlando, Florida, AdventHealth Orlando was founded in 1908. Its current president is Terry Shaw. The hospital has a pediatric ward and serves as a training hospital according to the organization.
