AdventHealth Wauchula has been recognized as a Top Rural Hospital by The Leapfrog Group for 2025, marking the eleventh consecutive year the hospital has received this honor. The award highlights the hospital’s ongoing commitment to patient safety and quality care in Hardee County.

The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit organization that evaluates hospitals on their ability to protect patients from preventable harm, such as accidents, injuries, and infections. Out of more than 2,400 hospitals assessed nationwide, only 156 received a Top Hospital designation this year, with just 16 classified as rural hospitals.

“This recognition is really about our patients and is also testament to the exceptional work and dedication of all our team members,” said Christen Johnson, vice president and administrator of AdventHealth Wauchula. “Our team works tirelessly to make sure every person who walks through our doors has the best possible safe, compassionate, whole-person care in this amazing community we call home.”

Hospitals that earn the Top Hospital award must meet strict standards for safety and quality. These include maintaining low infection rates, strong maternity care practices, and effective systems to prevent medication errors.

“AdventHealth Wauchula has distinguished itself through an unwavering focus on safety and quality, earning a place on this year’s list of Top Hospitals,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “This recognition reflects a culture of transparency and continuous improvement, one embraced by every member of the organization. We commend the entire team at AdventHealth Wauchula for reaching this outstanding milestone.”

AdventHealth Orlando is another facility within the AdventHealth system. It was founded in 1908 in Orlando, Florida. The hospital includes a pediatric ward and serves as a training hospital under its current president Terry Shaw.
