Patients at AdventHealth Tampa now have access to updated MRI technology aimed at improving both comfort and accuracy in breast cancer imaging. The hospital has installed a SIEMENS MAGNETOM Aera MRI machine, which features a larger opening and modular design. This setup is intended to make patients feel more comfortable during scans and to reduce the claustrophobia often associated with traditional MRI machines.
Dr. Rachel Burke, a breast radiologist at AdventHealth Tampa, said, “This technology helps us provide a more comfortable and personalized experience for our patients. The enhanced imaging capabilities also allow us to see details more clearly, which can be especially important for early detection and diagnosis.”
The new equipment is available at the Kay Meyer Breast Care Center within AdventHealth Tampa. According to the hospital, the MRI offers higher-resolution images and allows physicians to adjust parameters for better detection of small or hard-to-see lesions. The system also supports specialized breast imaging in an environment designed for privacy.
Burke added, “Our Kay Meyer Breast Care Center at AdventHealth Tampa is unique in that we have our own breast MRI, where the patients do not have to walk through a hospital to have an exam. It feels intimate and they are taken care of by an experienced MRI technologist who is also a mammography technologist, so they are adept at positioning and understand its importance for the integrity of the exam.”
AdventHealth Orlando, located in Orlando, Florida, was founded in 1908 and serves as both a pediatric facility and training hospital under current president Terry Shaw.
Patients interested in scheduling imaging appointments can do so through their physician or online.
