AdventHealth Redmond has announced the winners of its Fourth Annual Medical Staff Awards, recognizing providers who have demonstrated high standards of care and service. The awards, determined by nominations from peers and colleagues, highlight contributions to patient care within the hospital community.
Chris Merritt, MD, a cardiologist, was named Physician of the Year. A nominator stated: “I have worked with Dr. Merritt for eight years in the cardiac cath lab. I have seen the care and compassion that he extends to every patient. He always has a plan and protects not only the patient but the staff as well. He embodies our service standards daily just by being himself. He is an asset to this community, and I am thankful to work with him.”
The Advanced Practice Professional (APP) of the Year award went to Kimberley Weatherford, NP, who practices family medicine. According to her nomination: “Kimberley is always so kind. She truly listens to her patients. She is honest and stern but delivers health care in such a way that is beyond the healing ministry of Christ.”
Amanda Knaak, MD, specializing in anesthesiology, received the Rising Star Award for staff members with three years or less at AdventHealth Redmond. Her nomination read: “Amanda takes the lives of our patients seriously. She treats the children we see like her own. She makes sure she assesses them thoroughly and will not proceed with surgery unless she knows they will be safe.”
The Medical Staff Awards recognize excellence in three categories: Physician of the Year; Advanced Practice Professional (APP) of the Year; and Rising Star Award for new staff members.
Nominations are submitted by hospital and medical staff who provide examples of how nominees demonstrate core service standards such as Love Me, Keep Me Safe, Make It Easy, and Own It.
Award recipients will be featured on displays throughout various hospital locations including the Physicians’ Lounge, Cardiology Office, Shorter Ave. Office, and Surgery Center of Rome.
AdventHealth Orlando—located in Orlando, Florida—was founded in 1908 and serves as both a pediatric facility and training hospital under President Terry Shaw.
