AdventHealth Porter Transplant Institute reported record numbers of kidney and liver transplants in 2025, reflecting a year of expansion and process improvements aimed at increasing access to life-saving care. The Institute completed 120 kidney transplants and 29 liver transplants, the highest annual totals since its inception.

The increase in procedures was supported by the addition of new staff across various disciplines, including nursing, pharmacy, medical assisting, and referral coordination. The hepatology and transplant surgery teams were also expanded to serve patients more comprehensively.

Advancements in organ perfusion technology enabled the preservation and transplantation of more donated organs. New protocols for Hepatitis C–positive and expanded ABO-compatible kidneys further broadened eligibility for patients who previously had limited options. Paired kidney exchange transplants contributed to this growth as well.

Teams at AdventHealth Porter implemented several process improvements throughout the year. These included enhanced referral management systems, improved waitlist monitoring, and the introduction of FibroScan imaging for non-invasive liver assessment. The program also launched A2-to-B kidney transplants and increased access to Hepatitis C–positive organs while maintaining safety standards.

The collaborative approach extends beyond the main hospital campus through six kidney and eight liver satellite clinics that work with referring providers across Colorado and neighboring states. This outreach is intended to bring specialized transplant care closer to patients’ homes.

“It takes everyone before, during, and after surgery to prepare patients for transplant and support them through recovery,” transplant leaders shared. “That shared commitment allows us to serve more people safely and compassionately.”

AdventHealth Porter’s program is recognized for its early evaluation processes and personalized patient care. According to transplant leaders, “Our goal is simple: To bring transplant to more patients and help restore them to health. Every transplant is a life transformed.”

Looking ahead, priorities include continued growth in procedure volume, expanding organ perfusion capabilities, increasing reach through satellite clinics, and maintaining strong performance under the CMS IOTA model.

Located in Orlando, Florida, AdventHealth Orlando was founded in 1908. Its current president is Terry Shaw. The hospital includes a pediatric ward and serves as a training hospital.
