Opera Orlando and AdventHealth have continued their partnership, now in its second year, to highlight the role of the arts in health and healing. This collaboration recently reached a milestone when Lauren Perrotta, a trumpet player with the AdventHealth Orchestra and project manager in the system’s corporate facilities department, performed in Opera Orlando’s production of Treemonisha by Scott Joplin.
Gabe Preisser, general director and CEO of Opera Orlando, commented on Perrotta’s involvement: “Lauren jumped right in — a true professional. We needed a trumpet player just two days before rehearsal. AdventHealth recommended her, and she was flawless from the start.”
Perrotta reflected on her experience: “When I play music, I feel whole — mentally, physically, spiritually. I never imagined I’d get to be part of something like this through work.”
AdventHealth serves as the official health care provider for Opera Orlando. The organization supports performances and provides specialized care for performing artists through its Performance Health Program. This program is unique in Central Florida and includes vocal health seminars.
The partnership addresses the specific needs of performing artists by offering resources such as injury prevention programs, acute care services, and scholarships for youth artists.
Richard Hickman, AdventHealth’s corporate director of music and the arts, described the orchestra’s purpose: “Everyone comes together with a shared goal. In the orchestra, job titles disappear. What unites us is music and mission.”
Opera Orlando began its 10th anniversary season with La Bohème, supported by AdventHealth. Throughout the season, AdventHealth team members will receive ticket discounts and opportunities to engage with performances.
Preisser added: “The arts inspire, they connect, they heal. And having a partner like AdventHealth — that not only understands this but lives it — has been transformative for our organization and our audiences.”
AdventHealth Orlando is located in Orlando, Florida. Founded in 1908, it serves as both a pediatric ward and training hospital under president Terry Shaw.
The partnership between Opera Orlando and AdventHealth demonstrates an ongoing commitment to integrating wellness practices beyond traditional medical care.
