AdventHealth North Pinellas is holding several events during Breast Cancer Awareness Month to support women’s health and provide free breast cancer screenings for those without insurance. The initiative aims to raise awareness about the importance of early detection and make it easier for women to access mammograms.
According to AdventHealth, one in eight women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Early detection significantly improves treatment outcomes. To address this, AdventHealth is focusing on increasing awareness, promoting regular screenings, and simplifying the process of scheduling a mammogram.
On October 4, community members in Trinity attended an event called “Her Health Matters.” The event included expert panels, mobile mammography screenings, and booths from clinical and wellness vendors. Attendees had opportunities to speak directly with healthcare professionals about prevention, early detection, and available treatment options.
Tiffany Nieters, lead mammographer at AdventHealth North Pinellas, emphasized the accessibility of mammograms: “They sometimes hear horror stories and once they get here they see it, and they realize it’s not that bad. So, events like this shows exactly what they’re going to be having done and they see how easy it is.”
AdventHealth offers several measures to make getting a mammogram easier: online scheduling; quick appointments that often take less than 30 minutes; convenient locations at hospital breast centers and outpatient imaging centers within AdventHealth Care Pavilions; contactless pre-registration via mobile devices; and no physician script required for women over 40 who have no symptoms or have not had a mammogram in the past year.
