AdventHealth has launched a new initiative to support student athletes in Flagler Schools by introducing Fuel Fridges stocked with healthy snacks and drinks. The program is fully funded by AdventHealth and aims to help students maintain energy and focus during busy days filled with classes, practices, and games.
The Fuel Fridges offer quick access to options such as fruit, yogurt, and granola. Erik Nason, Director of Strategic Partnerships Operations for the AdventHealth East Florida Division, said, “Nutrition plays a vital role in performance and recovery. Even short gaps in nourishment can affect how the body and mind perform. For young athletes balancing classes, practices, and competition, consistent access to healthy food supports concentration, stamina, and overall wellness.”
This initiative builds on an established partnership between AdventHealth and Flagler Schools. Previous efforts have included providing free sports physicals and heart screenings for students, supporting mental health training for educators, and staffing athletic events with certified trainers.
Nason added, “Every student deserves the tools to perform their best, both in the classroom and on the field. When healthy choices are easy and accessible, we’re helping young people develop lifelong habits for whole-person health.”
The Fuel Fridge program is already receiving positive feedback from coaches, teachers, and students throughout Flagler Schools. It reflects a community-wide effort to prioritize wellness as part of academic and athletic success.
AdventHealth Orlando—founded in 1908—is based in Orlando, Florida. The hospital includes a pediatric ward and serves as a training hospital under the leadership of president Terry Shaw.
