Two nurses at AdventHealth Gordon, Ian Sorrow, RN, and Mellissa Pumphrey, RN, have been recognized with the DAISY Award for the fourth quarter of 2025. The award acknowledges their compassionate care provided to a patient with terminal lung cancer.
Sorrow and Pumphrey were nominated after making special efforts to support the patient. This included coming in on a day off to help him see his vintage truck before entering hospice care. Their actions offered comfort and dignity to both the patient and his family during a challenging time.
The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses is an international program that honors nurses and caregivers who display clinical excellence, compassion, and dedication to patients.
AdventHealth Gordon stated: “AdventHealth Gordon congratulates Ian Sorrow and Mellissa Pumphrey for this well‑deserved recognition and for exemplifying the values of uncommon compassion and kindness.”
More information about the DAISY Foundation or how to nominate a nurse can be found at DAISYFoundation.org.
