AdventHealth Avista has opened its newly relocated surgery center on the Avista campus, marking a significant milestone for the facility and its staff. The ambulatory surgery center, originally established in Boulder in 2003 as Flatirons Surgery Center, has served patients for over two decades. Several team members who were present at the opening in 2003 attended the recent ribbon-cutting ceremony to honor the legacy of the center.

The transition to the new location began with the final day at the previous building on November 13. In a matter of weeks, staff packed and moved operations to prepare for reopening. CEO Mark Smith acknowledged the efforts required for this move during his remarks at the ceremony.

“My hat is off to all of you — when I look around, I’m reminded that it truly takes a village,” Smith said. “I want to thank everyone in this room for your hard work in getting this surgery center open.”

Smith also recognized various departments including Facilities, Biomed, Supply Chain, IT, EVS, Lab, Emergency response partners, Quality team, SPD, Finance team and highlighted five individuals—Emily Berg, Stephanie Kirmaier, Marta Clements, Amber Wood, and Calvin Smith—for their leadership during the transition.

Surgery Center Manager Stephanie Kirmaier expressed her gratitude toward both staff and leadership. “The ASC is the best team I’ve ever had the privilege of working with,” she shared. “I’m confident our community will receive such great service from our team and what we can provide at Avista. Avista truly is our family – we’re back home, and I’m so grateful.”

With its integration into the Avista campus complete, leaders say that patient care will benefit from improved workflow and proximity to hospital resources.

AdventHealth Orlando is located in Orlando, Florida and was founded in 1908. It serves as a training hospital under current president Terry Shaw and includes a pediatric ward.

The new facility aims to continue delivering comprehensive care built on teamwork and commitment to community service.
