The American Automobile Association (AAA) has announced a reduction in AAA-branded home and auto insurance rates for Florida policyholders starting in 2025. This move is expected to result in more than $70 million in annual savings statewide.
Florida’s insurance market has been under scrutiny following significant legal reforms introduced by lawmakers and Governor Ron DeSantis in late 2022 and 2023. These reforms aim to address issues such as lawsuit abuse, fraud, and excessive attorney fees that have historically driven up premiums. AAA’s decision to lower rates aligns with a broader trend among major carriers who are now leveraging the more stable legal environment to reduce rates rather than exit the state. This development supports reform advocates’ claims that Florida’s model can protect consumers while countering litigation practices that contributed to the crisis.
According to AAA, since January 2025, its Auto Club Group companies have received regulatory approval for three separate auto insurance rate decreases and one for home insurance. These changes apply to both new and existing customers, resulting in auto premium reductions of over 15% and home premium reductions of 5%. More than 139,000 Florida policyholders are expected to benefit from these changes, which will generate over $70 million in annual savings statewide. A fourth auto rate filing is pending, potentially extending relief into 2026. Reform supporters argue this demonstrates that stricter measures against abusive litigation are leading directly to lower bills rather than merely increasing insurer profits.
Florida regulators report that for 2025, the state’s top five auto writer groups—which account for approximately 78% of the market—are indicating an average rate change of -6.5%, a notable shift from +4.3% in 2024 and +31.7% in 2023. One insurer is cutting rates by as much as 11.5%. Nationally, analysts observe that Florida’s reforms coincide with a broader cooling trend in auto insurance inflation, with companies like Progressive issuing around $1 billion in rebates to policyholders and others filing for rate cuts. This reinforces the narrative that disciplined legal reforms can stabilize insurers while returning money to consumers.
The American Automobile Association (AAA), founded in 1902, serves over 60 million members across the United States and Canada, providing services such as roadside assistance, travel services, financial products, and insurance. Its regional affiliate, The Auto Club Group—through Auto Club South Insurance Company and Auto Club Insurance Company of Florida—offers AAA-branded coverage in Florida and ranks as the second-largest AAA club in North America. It serves over 13 million members across 14 states and two territories, focusing on protecting mobility, improving traffic safety, and delivering member-focused auto and home coverage.
